United Methodist Women
UMW is a community of women organized for mission locally and globally with focus on ministries with women, children and youth. Besides financial support for missions, UMW seeks to provide a supportive fellowship for service and spiritual/personal growth for our members. UMW welcomes all women. Dilworth United Methodist Church's five active women's circles meet in homes or at the church, and the General Meeting for all UMW members meets quarterly for a meal and program
We offer four adult faith formation groups on Sunday mornings that cover a variety of topics and experiences. Classes meet at 10 am unless otherwise noted. Please join us for coffee fellowship in the Jones Building Lobby before class.
Men of Purpose Class – This Bible study group for men of all ages meets in the Library near the Sanctuary on Sunday mornings at 10:00 for study, discussion and prayer to strengthen our faith and learn how to live with purpose.
Bowles Class – Adults ages 55 and over. Meets in the Bowles Room under the sanctuary at 9:45 am. Class is lecture style with time for prayer concerns and hymn singing. They use the Lectionary curriculum.
Explorers Class – Mainly adults in their 30’s, 40’s and 50’s. Uses a variety of DVD and discussion styles to strive to discern what it means to be a Christian. Meets in Room 208 in the Children's Building.
The Open Door Class – An intergenerational class. The class uses discussion style to cover a mixture of studies on Biblical topics. We will use a variety of studies to discuss and strengthen our Christian faith.
Coffee & Chat– New to church? Not sure if you're up for following Jesus? Want to learn what that means? Been gone from church a while and not sure how to reconnect? If you said yes to any of those questions, you're invited to grab a cup of coffee and chat with us! We value conversations over lectures. Anyone at any stage on their faith journey is welcome to join this group at 10:00 a.m. in the Gathering Space! Each week is different!
New Life Class- Are you "Nearly Wed", "Newly Wed", expecting parents, new parents? are you looking to start a new phase of life with Christ? This is the small group for you! Email Sallie Anna if you are interested in being a part of this new group for young adult couples!
Reading Women- All women who like to read and discuss books, who want to grow in faith, and who are looking for a group of friends to get connected to are invited to join Reading Women. This group lead by Pastor Karen will meet on the third Tuesday of each month. They will read books by women or about women, fiction and nonfiction, funny books, serious books, books with theological or spiritual messages, and books that are nonreligious. In all their reading, they will look for how the story connects us with God's story and our own stories as women. To join the group, email Pastor Karen at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Disciple Bible Study – Disciple Bible Study is a global, nondenominational program that has impacted the lives of over 1.5 million people over the past 20 years. Everyone begins with Disciple 1: Becoming Disciples through Bible Study, the prerequisite for other more advanced classes. Disicple 1 takes you through over 80% of the Bible in a 34-week period. You will find that you will be transformed by this study that calls you to grow in your faith and be changed by God’s Word. People who have gone through this class often say it is the best thing they’ve ever done for their spiritual lives.
Newcomers Class – Are you new to Dilworth Church, or have you joined recently? If so, you're invited to our next Newcomers Class, which is held 4 times a year after 11:00 worship. Meet staff, leaders, and other new folks; learn about the church and Methodist beliefs and practices; and find your place to connect and belong. 2016 classes are March 13, June 5, September 18, and December 4. Covenant Group – The goal of this group is to bring the participants closer to God, Dilworth Church and each other. The group will meet weekly at the Flying Biscuit at 7:30 am on Tuesdays. Doug Groome and Erin Payton are leading this group. Contact the church office for more information.
Faithful Finances– Starting a career? Buying the first home? A baby on the way? Children going to college? Student loans? Catastrophic illness? Retirement looming? Estate planning? In ever season of life, we need to make decisions about our finances so we are able to live the life we intend to live and prepare for our future. As people of faith, we are called to give, save, and spend in ways that please God and reflect our commitment to Christ. This fall, Dilworth Church can help you with that. Member Duncan Wilson (A certified Financial Planner, CFP) and Paul Zodtner (A Chartered Retirement Planning Counselor, CRPC), are offering a series of three classes on Faithful Finances to help you set or achieve your fainancial goals and be a faithful steward. Classes will be held on Sunday afternoons, September 25, October 9, and October 23 from 5:30-7:00 in the Bowls Classroom. Banter & Brew – Adults of all ages are invited to meet up at Olde Mecklenburg Brewery on Wednesdays @ 7:30 for cold brew, warm community, and hot topics. Knitting - This group meets after the 11 worship service once a month for fellowship over the needle arts. Experts and beginners are equally welcome as the group works on prayer shawls, hats for cancer patients, scarves for refugees, personal projects, and more!
